BBVA Compass Random Acts of Kindness Campaign Brightens Lives of the Givers and Recipients

BBVA Compass gave its employees an opportunity this summer to make a difference – in a personal way – in the communities where they work and play through the 100 Days of Brightness campaign.

The campaign challenged employees to find ways to help others and put BBVA Compass’ 10 Bright Principles into action, arming them with $25 gift cards and one simple mission: do good and spread brightness through random acts of kindness.

A sampling of midpoint stats illustrates the potential power and scale of a kindness campaign. As of mid-July, BBVA Compass had:

Distributed 2,987 gift cards

Contributed nearly $75,000 to people and organizations

Helped 730 animals

Passed out 137 Sno Cones

Positively impacted people in 258 communities

But the true measure of the campaign’s success is the number of employees – nearly 200 so far—who have shared their stories of bringing brightness to someone else. Some team members bundled their gift cards for a bigger impact; others opted for smaller, more personal opportunities. But all of the employees were touched by the act of giving.

Here are a few of their stories:

“You scream, I scream, we all scream for ice cream! A Sacramento favorite, Gunther’s Ice Cream was the scene for this #LiveBright opportunity,” said BBVA Compass team member C. Lang. “Gave the gift card to a family to use as a way to cool off during our 100+ degree temps we’ve been experiencing. They were delighted to hear about BBVA’s 100 Days of Brightness!”



“A few of my co-workers and I hit the streets in downtown Montgomery looking for our local police officers to brighten their day,” said B. Cramer. “They were very humbled and appreciative of us choosing them to receive a $25 gift card.”


One evening after work L. Padia stopped at a few places to give back and pay it forward to someone. “My last stop was Family Dollar, I asked the worker if I could pay it forward. Come to find out she was moving and was actually in the middle of purchasing some household items! It was right on time! Tears!!! I went home smiling and crying it really feels good to give back. I feel all warm and fuzzy inside!”


The Ruidoso, N.M., Mechem Team donated $50 to the Lincoln County Humane Society to cover food for half of the animals in the shelter for a week. “As the only shelter in Lincoln County, they have their hands full,” says BBVA Compass team member Taylor P.


Linda T. and her teammates went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Houston to surprise the kids with goodie bags.


The Remote Model Department combined cards to donate supplies to the Covenant House Texas, a nonprofit that offers a safe haven to homeless youth.


“The best gift of all is one with no strings attached,” said BBVA Compass Chief Marketing and Client Experience Officer Jennifer Dominiquini. “Giving back, whether it’s through actions or a sincere ‘thank you’ to show appreciation, brightens the lives of the givers as much as it does the recipients.”
